ABSTRACT

Objective Survey of Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital hand hygiene facilities at all levels was made with improvement measures proposed. Methods Hand Hygiene Norms for Medical Workers questionnaires designed by the Ministry of Health was used in a field survey on hand hygiene facilities of 89 TCM hospitals in Guangxi. Results Facilities of the non-hand-touch taps, hand sanitizer and hand disinfectants were found satisfactory at key departments at all TCM hospitals in the region, yet poor performance with the hand drying facilities.Hospitals with such departments with non-hand-touch taps, hand sanitizer and hand disinfectants accounted for 93.3%,100.0% and 100.0%.Only 41.6% of the hospitals were found to use dry hand towels as drying facilities.Significant difference was found at various levels of hospitals' hand hygiene facilities. Conclusion The hand hygiene facilities at such hospitals in Guangxi are receiving growing attention, yet further investment is still required for further improvement and compliance of the medical staff in hand hygiene.

ABSTRACT

Suicide is a common and preventable event that is often reported by the media when there are sensationalistic elements or if the suicide involves a celebrity. Media reports of suicide can induce a copycat or "Werther effect". There is increasing evidence that sensationalistic reporting of suicides has a direct effect on increasing suicide rates. Responsible reporting guidelines drawn up in consultation with media professionals have been shown to improve reporting of suicides. Local reporting on suicides tends to be sensationalistic but also has a strong educational slant. The media should educate both the public and the medical professional about their role in suicide prevention.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the effects of Arbuscular Mycorrhizae on cultivated Atractylodes lancea.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>Pot experiment of A. lancea, with (code as AM) or without (code as CK) Glomus mosseae (GM) was conducted 5 times respectively, then the biomass, essential oil, and soil nutrition, soil organism, soil microbial were detected after A. lancea were harvested.</p><p><b>RESULT</b>(1) Mycorrhizal dependency of A. lancea was 245%, and height of individuals, numbers of leaves, leaf area, biomass of A. lancea were all higher in AM than in CK (P < 0.05). (2) GC-MS analysis with cluster analysis and principal components analysis showed that there were no differences in essential oil of A. lancea between AM and CK. (T3) Total N, available N, available P and available K in AM soil were all lower than in CK soil. (4) GC-MS analysis showed organic matters changed differenly in AM soil and CK soil, components 5,6 in AM soil were higher than that in CK soil, but component 9, 10, 11 were lower in AM soil than that in CK soil. (5) Biolog detect showed AWCD of AM soil microbe were higher than that of CK soil throughout the incubation, and AWCD of the former was 0.66, and the later was 0.46 after 192 h incubation. and t-test showed, Shannon seven indices and McIntosh'seven indices were same both at 72 h and 192 h, and diversity indices of Shannon and McIntosh were also same at 72 h, but AM soil microbe were higher than CK soil microbe at 168 h (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>AM could promote nutrition uptake, improve the function diversity and activity of microbe in rhizosphere of A. lancea, influence the composition of the organic matter, that lead the growth of A. lancea, but not to the quality.</p>

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the prognostic value of intrapartum continuous fetal heart monitoring(FHM). METHODS: A review of 150 patients who had intrapartum FHM was performed. The relation between fetal heart rate and amniotic fluid condition, newborn Apgar scores, and delivery method was determined. RESULTS: Among the 150 cases, normal fetal heart rates were recorded in 108 cases. The abnormalities in the other 42 cases with abnormal FHM were as follows: cloudy amniotic fluid 27 cases(64.3%)compared with 17/108 (15.7%) in the normal FHM group (P<0.005); 10 cases (23.8%) had Apgar scores <8 compared with only 2 (1.85%) in the normal FHM group (P<0.005). In the abnormal FHM group, there were 15 cases (35.7%) of spontaneous labor,10 cases (23.8%) of forceps delivery and 17 cases (40.5%) of C-section compared with 81, 3, and 24 (75%,2.8%, and 22.2%) respectively in the normal FHM group (P<0.005). Spontaneous delivery was more common in the normal FHM (75%)compared with abnormal FHM group(35.7%). C-section rate was higher in the abnormal FHM group (40.5%) (P<0.005). CONCLUSION: Intrapartum fetal heart monitoring detects early fetal distress and thus may lead to earlier intervention such as C-section during the perinatal period.
